Each year, we reevaluate the business and the industry from top to bottom. One of our strengths is the ability to react and change directions if needed.

For the 2007-08 we have focused on four main areas:

Skates: Each year it seems there are more skate models and more price points. Skates are getting to the $600 mark, yet not everyone needs that skate, heck- or want to pay that!

We’ve added Easton to our portfolio, added skates at the $299.99- $350 price points.  Not only have we hit those prices, but we have hit them with GREAT skates.  In the past we have not had that price because we did not believe in the models that were offered.  It is one thing to pay $300, but it has to perform and fit.  Let us help you find the skate for you!

Sticks: Are you keeping up with what is new- the latest and greatest?  It is hard isn’t it?  Let us do that work for you.  We are carrying the best, and things are changing fast.  What was new at Christmas, may be gone tomorrow.  The companies are launching new sticks it seems quarterly and you can benefit.  New technology, better performance, and newer graphics.  The stick industry will not let up. Helmets: We have added yet two more models of helmets- bringing our line up to EIGHT models. Yes, EIGHT! We would like to take a moment to update you what is going on in the Hockey Business loop. The industry of hockey is changing fast, and we help you keep up on the news and equipment changes.

What would another year be without a major buyout? 

Easton Hockey was bought by Bell Sports.  Bell Sports- the industry leader in helmets for many sports

Adidas owns CCM and RBK. New Balance owns Warrior. Nike owns Bauer. 

What does this mean to the industry?  It means there are 4 key players, and these are driving the market, the trends, and the business.

The good:  is the money driving these companies into being better than the other is major, and that helps us as players.  It means better product, newer product faster, and over time better prices.

The bad:  how does the industry handle the business if there are only 4 major companies.  How do they handle the specialty stores (like us), to the ones who dabble a little in hockey, to the internet companies, to the box stores, and the ones in between who get lost?  Could hockey be like the golf business.  Rapid growth, stores everywhere, and now look at the decline of that retail business model.

That is our concern- why should you buy from us?

Parents celebrate!  The first lace up youth skate in small sizing than a youth 8!  Time to get that wee lil’ one on the ice in a great skate.  This skate starts at a Youth 6, and goes until a youth 13.  Get it soon, we are quite sure we will be out by the holidays… makes a great gift too!

RBK 9K Pump

When we went to see the skate presentation for 2007-2008, this was the first item I noticed on the massive walls of product.

But, looks do not make the skate.  But man, does this skate deliver!  Thus, we are excited to have the 4K on our walls for 2007-08.  Designed to maximize comfort in the ankle area and comfort throughout the boot.   Available in Senior, Junior and Youth.

Continuing on for this season is the PITCH. Pitch allows you to find the angle of the skate blade that performs best for you. This will increase you balance, stride, and power. Every skate is made differently, and there is no right answer to what is the best pitch. Every skater is different due to body type, position, and style of skating.

Fuel 120-AG (Agility)

Stealth S15 Skate
The only skate made of a one-piece composite boot form will revolutionize your game.  How?  At sub 700 grams, it’s the lightest performance skate ever made- less weight means faster speed on the ice.

This is our first Easton skate in over 10 years, and we are excited about welcoming Easton back on our skate wall.  It took some time, but we think this skate is something exciting.  We think you will too once you get a chance to introduce your foot to the S15.

One-Piece Sticks and the Next Step

By far the fastest growing segment of the hockey industry, and perhaps the most misunderstood. The one-piece stick takes performance to the next level.

By joining the blade and shaft together at a lower point on the stick, the flex point ("kickpoint") is now lower and closer to the ice. This greatly increases the velocity of a shot or pass to an unbelievable level. The downsides to these sticks are price and breakage. No stick holds up better than another, and they will break.

Every manufacturer requires the warranty to be handled by them directly and not the retail store. It is critical for you to hang on to the receipt of any one-piece stick.  The warranty program will be tweaked by the companies in the summer of 2007.  It will require you to have the serial number on your receipt that matches the serial number on the stick!

Let’s take a moment to work on a few terms that will guide you along in understanding any stick purchase.

"Flex" – The amount of weight one needs to have behind a shot to allow the stick to flex, thus generate velocity on a shoot or pass. The higher the "flex" the stiffer the stick.

"Senior" – Adult sticks in terms of length, diamater and flex. Different sticks and shafts offer a wide variety of flex's- 85, 100, 110 are the most common. Some will have a 90 as well.

"Intermediate" – Stick for middle size players and great for female players. This stick will be shorter and narrower than the adult's. Flex's are usually 65, with some carry over in the 75's, and a few 60's.

"Junior" – Stick for the younger players. Will be the shortest, and smallest shaft dimensions to fit their hands. Juniors will be in 50 flex.

"Lie" – The angle of the stick to the ice. The higher the number, the more upright the stick is. This is important so that the blade is on the ice to handle the puck, and this is the most often misunderstood feature of a stick.

"Curve" or "Pattern" – The amount of bend and angle of the stick blade. This is a personal choice, but remember the backhand!

We have put together a chart which compares the blades by vendor that Sports Hut carries.  This chart is subject to manufactor change, and was compiled with the best information available at the time.  Note:  patterns, lies, and curve depth change often or get re-named.  For example this season RBK’s Phaneuf was last years Pronger.

One-Piece Sticks
Easton
To understand why Easton is leading the way in the stick market is as simple as looking towards their mission statement: " To be the world leader in supplying high-performance sports equipment and components. To innovate, develop, manufacture and market all types of high-quality sports and recreational equipment and components that utilize our unique engineering and manufacturing capabilities and offer the consumer distinctly higher performance products."

Let's not kid around. Watch an NHL game and see who is using what. Easton is the market. Three factors make Easton the king of the one piece market- materials, process, and design.

Continuing on for 2006 is the reduction of the flex rating for intermediate sticks. The intermediate used to have a 75 Flex, but now that has been lowered to 65, which we are excited about. This will give smaller players, or women more game!

The Synergy is the one to blame for this rush to the one piece, and the end is not in sight. Wait until you see this years line up!

Let’s talk CNT. Carbon Nanotubes(CNT) fills those gaps of air formed by regular composite fills in product. CNT which is 25x stronger than any regular graphite, and according to a NASA Research Center it is “the strongest fiber man will ever produce.” CNT takes away dead spots that cause breaking and cracking.

CNT is the wave of the future. You will see it in other sports- biking, ski’s just to name a few.

Synergy Elite
Easton once again takes the top performing Synergy to the next level with the Synergy Elite. A big success from last season, but adding CNT. This stick comes in at 420 grams, but carries a big punch!

Sports Hut is excited to introduce Paramount! The hollow and profile are machined with high accuracy. Paramount Blades are made from a lightweight aircraft aluminum holder with a high quality steel runner. The unique triangular shaped frame increases strength and stiffness. Due to the lighter weight, skaters using Paramount blades can have higher and longer jumps.

What makes SP-Teri the best fitting boot? Simple: the SP-Teri last designed by Joseph Spiteri in 1963. Our last allows the skater's foot to lay flat in the boot for maximum comfort and control. And since 1963, the last has been modified three times to keep step with the evolution of the human foot.

For control, SP-Teri has always realized that skaters need a boot that fits snugly but not tightly. That's why - instead of a pointed foot - our last is designed with a rounded toe box. It allows the foot to get close to the end of the boots without squeezing the second, third and fourth toes.
